The Dirty Work: Lemon Case Study

Nov 13, 2013

How do BioFlora® products actually work?

Decades of research and development have gone into our BioFlora® line of products. As an affiliate of Global Organics Group, at BioFlora® we believe in the partnership between crops and the soils they are grown in. Unlike other companies, we do not apply synthetic additives to achieve a short-term solution for a long-term problem. We begin the process by going directly to the field and working from the ground up.

By obtaining samples of soils and crops and testing them in one of our research facilities, we can determine the source of a problem or potential issues. And it doesn’t stop there; as technology improves and evolves, our mission to enhance our products and develop additional innovative solutions continues.

To further our dedication to our products, we have conducted numerous environmental scientific tests throughout the years, in partnership with other respected organizations from around the world. We have seen true results time and time again.

If you find yourself curious as to how BioFlora® products actually work, please don’t just take our word for it. Our case studies are a true testament to the continued power of our products.

One such test includes the application of BioFlora® products to lemons in Yuma, Arizona. The products applied include GOgreen®, GO Isolates™,   BioFlora Seaweed Creme®, BioFlora® 5-17-4, BioFlora® 0-0-25 and ECOCAL 325, DynaMega® 2-1-1, V, and BioFlora® 6-0-0 + 8% Ca.

What was the purpose of this trial?

The purpose of this trial was to determine if applying soil applications and foliar applications of several BioFlora® products would help increase yield and suppress the presence of Fusarium, Phytophtora, Pythium and Alternaria.

What procedures took place?

In the test field, GOgreen®, GO Isolates™,  BioFlora Seaweed Creme®, BioFlora® 5-17-4, BioFlora® 0-0-25 and ECOCAL 325 were applied to the soil throughout the growing season (January – December). For the foliar applications, DynaMega® 2-1-1, BioFlora Seaweed Creme®, BioFlora® 0-0-25, Fulmega™ 1% Mg, and BioFlora® 6-0-0 + 8% Ca were applied in February, May, and October. All BioFlora® products were applied in addition to the grower standard program, with the same rates and applications used in the Control Field. The BioFlora® Field was a total of 9 acres.

In the control field, the grower applied their standard program which included applying 2 – 10 gallon applications of 10-34-0 and 1 – 10 gallon application of UN-32. The control field was a total of 16 acres.

What were the results?

The scientific testing carried out using BioFlora® products revealed:

  1. The BioFlora® treated field had 151 more trays on 9 acres than the Control Field of Export Fancy lemons, which are the highest grade and receive top return in the market ($18).
  2. The BioFlora® Field realized $846 / acre return and the Control Field realized $544 / acre return, a 64% income advantage for Export Fancy lemons.
  3. Treated fields continue to advance in vigor and both beneficial microbe numbers and microbial diversity continue to increase.
  4. Soil plant pathogens appear to be suppressed since the initial pre-treatment numbers were logged.

Conclusion

BioFlora® aims to preserve our ecosystem through environmentally sustainable efforts as well as unique, proprietary product lines, which all of the products used in this trial are a part of. The core business model is to create a partnership between crops and soil which in turn focuses on the needs of the customer so that we can work with growers, instead of simply for growers.
