For products used to treat or prevent glycation events
Global Organics® Group, an international, integrated life sciences company, officially received a signed and sealed patent for its exclusive anti-glycation product line from Deputy Director Michelle K. Lee of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This patent, which was first filed in October of 2008, relates to Global Organics’ products, available through its Mineral BioSciences® division, which have displayed anti-glycation activities and are used to treat or prevent glycation events in humans and animals.
Unnatural consumption of sugar under its many different forms (corn syrup, refined sugar) accelerates and increases the glycation process within the body. Glycation occurs when protein molecules cross-link with excess sugar molecules and create new sugar-proteins called Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs). It is believed that this cross-linking plays a role in the aging process, as well as diabetic and other long-term health complications.
This process may sound complicated, but cross-linking reactions are an effect everyone is familiar with. It is the same process that causes food to turn yellow and become tough, think of an apple cut in half that turns yellow and then brown.
This same process occurs at the cellular level within our bodies, and while some AGEs are benign, others are more reactive, and are heavily implicated in many age-related chronic diseases; such as type II diabetes, cardiovascular diseases such as Alzheimer’s, certain cancers, peripheral neuropathy, and other sensory losses such as deafness and blindness. Therefore, its inhibition is considered to be a powerful property, capable of delaying various undesired changes in our bodies as we age.
This patent protects Global Organics’ exclusive composition in its GLY/DE® product line.
